Selar Host Founder of Teachables Alongside 18 Creators at Selar Digital Creator Summit 2022

For two days, on the18th & 19th February 2022, Selar hosted the first and Largest summit for Digital Creators In Africa, consisting of hyper-focused speeches from top shots in the digital creator industry, panel sessions, and live Q&A sessions to help creators take their Digital Business to the next level.

It was really a weekend well spent for digital creators as they got to meet gurus in the digital creator industry, learn from them and also interact with them.

A total of 18 speakers spoke at the selar digital creator summit 2022. They were;

ATTENDANCE AT THE SELAR DIGITAL CREATOR SUMMIT 2022

Over 10,000 digital creators registered for the selar digital creator summit 2022, which is a huge number despite it being the first-ever summit organized by Selar and also the ever first summit in Africa just for digital creators.

Selar is a platform that helps digital creators in Africa have a smooth and stress-free payment and delivery mode of their digital products to their consumers.

Our goal is to help move the African digital creator economy to a greater height 

The summit was opened by a keynote speech from the Founder & CEO of Selar, Douglas Kendyson, The speech was focused on what the summit is about and how creators in Africa can take their share of the over $20 Creators economy in Africa.

In his speech he said;

Selar was founded in the year 2016, and that was because of the realizations that Africans are very entrepreneurial and have so much knowledge to share and it’s just on our part to create a platform where everyone can share their knowledge and get paid. Hence why I went ahead to create a free store builder to sell all kinds of digital products such as Ebooks, Courses, Memberships, Training, Coaching Services to Physical Products. One question that really drives what we do at sellar today is “How Can We Help Creators To Sell More?”. 

Every feature on our platform today answers this question…”

Speaking further about Selar’s Goal for the digital creator summit, Douglas said,

“Our goal for the summit is to ensure digital creators get their share of the $20 billion economies…”

The second speaker for the morning session was Tricia Ikponmwomba of Tricia Biz. She spoke about strategies to make massive sales as a digital creator.

During her session, she said;

You are not selling because you have the mindset that you can’t sell. You need to upgrade your mind from the low mindset. You need to be in the place where you know that what you put on the table is worth enough for the amount stamped on it. 

You need to have a decent array of digital products”

She continued by saying that “Everyone that comes into your funnel should be offered something, you need to create a product that almost everyone can access, this is called A VALUE LADDER”

She also talked about BRAND POSITIONING,  which means that digital creators should not really focus on a niche rather they should focus majorly on how to position themselves as an expert.

The second session for Friday was a panel session, the panelists are; Gloria Olufeko, Adora Nwodo, Temi Popoola, and Dr. Javnyuy Joybert. 

Dr. Javnyuy who is a Management Consultant in Cameron mentioned that he started his career path as a digital creator by teaching young individuals on marketing in his mini town. Then he moved on to creating his digital products like audio courses, ebooks, etc. In his speech, he said that he started using Selar last year to sell his digital product, and that had brought liberation for his business, because of Selar’s payment system. 

When asked how he manages his programs, he said,” I create opportunities for varied interns, give them assigned tasks that will help them grow, then I move my focus on other programs.”

Temi Popoola was asked about her best experience as a Creator. Here’s what she said,

“Seeing the big IMPACT people are getting from her content and she sees that as one of her best experiences because of the feedback and testimonials from people.”

According to TĂ©mi Popoola, she is not concerned about the number of people her content gets to but rather she’s keener on the impact her content can have on people. 

Temi’s Closing Remark was Get exposed!!! Even if it requires that you pay for it.”

When Adora Nwodo was asked how she balances her activities to remain productive. She said she does this by;

  • Bulk creation of content
  • Having a support system
  • Having a place for random Ideas
  • Proper Time Planning  

Adora talked about how she used the “VRIO” mechanism to generate massive sales for her digital products. While explaining the meaning of VRIO. She said,

“V means Value: Give value

“R” means Rare: Make your product rare by infusing your personal perception to it, since there exists only one of you.

“I” means Imitation: Can your product be easily imitated? This would be difficult when it is rare.

“O” means Organized: Present your product in an organized way and be organized yourself.

The last session for Friday had Blessing Abeng come to talk to us about “How to communicate superior value in the MarketPlace”.

She mentioned 5 things a digital creator need to communicate superior value in the market place and it’s as follows;

  • Know yourself
  • Know your customers
  • Build Your Trust with Your Audience
  • Don’t be afraid to show your work
  • Collaborate with people

On the 19th of February, which is the second day of the digital creator summit, Jimi Tewe gave a talk on “Tools and Strategies for Exponential Results”

Milton Tutu, Growth Marketing Manager of Selar was the moderator.

Jimi Tewe started his talk by discussing how a digital creator should be relevant “ until what you are offering is relevant to my world I will not engage with you”.

According to him when finding relevance find your who, what, and where.

He also spoke about Building Courage. “Courage lets you start encouragement to keep you going”

He further continued his talk by explaining the creation process; “To be an authentic creator, you’ve got to be in isolation, but after creation you’ve got to engage. Creating means being in isolation, you can’t create well without being isolated but after creation ensures you engage or network. Creation sales come from networking.”

 He advised everyone to learn networking skills, “A creator should not be an island, if an island is alone it will be washed away.

Every creator should learn more and also learn to collaborate because if you are isolated you can’t achieve as much as you ought.”

The Second Panel Session for the Digital Creator was on the 19th of February and here is a take-home tip from the sessions.

Peace Itimi spoke on his perspective of a community, He said, “A community is a group of people with similar interests and shared values.

By giving out value, you’ll be able to grow with people who like contents you put up and learn from them as well and that’s what community is really all about. Values and interests.”

Salem King’s perspective of community is that “Community is one thing that helped humans survive in the stone age because they were in groups. We’re constantly looking for safety and familiarity and that has transcended into the digital space. Communities are human needs and responsibilities as well.”

Bolaji Ajibare spoke about her experience in building her community, she said it was overwhelming but it was worth it. 

When asked how she thought creators can best monetize their talent, she said, “Find what works for you and stick to it. Deliver consistently. Then put a price on it.”

Salem King explained how creators can best monetize their talent. He said,

“Firstly, It is possible and it can be done but it is not also going to be easy. There’s money in everything, so don’t go into something because of the money alone. You’ll burn out real fast. 

Don’t be in a hurry to give up your 9-5 or money source. Take your time and know what exactly it is you’re doing. Invest, invest, invest and this cumulates in the end to become something. It’s a lot of work. You should think about how to add value and solve problems for a target audience and that’s how you get people to part with their money. Put in your hours. It is so much easier to sell your digital products to someone who knows, likes, and trusts you.”
