How Seyi Obasi Built A Six-Figure Immigration Consultancy Business With Selar

Seyi Obasi is a Nigerian Canadian immigration consultant who has helped over 1000 people migrate successfully to Canada with Selar’s help. She does this through video content creation, course creation, and one-on-one consultations tailored to each client’s unique needs. Using Selar’s platform, Seyi seamlessly sells her online courses, manages bookings for consultations, and provides her audience with the tools and knowledge they need to navigate the Canadian immigration process with confidence. Her expertise and Selar’s stellar features have made her a trusted name in immigration consulting.

From finance to immigration consultancy

Seyi’s journey began in 2018 when she arrived in Ontario as an international student in finance. After graduating, she landed a role as a financial advisor with a prestigious firm in the city.

“It was great, but I wasn’t satisfied, even though I was being paid well. Around this time, my friends and family started reaching out to me with questions about moving to Canada. I noticed they didn’t have the right information about the process and people took advantage of the ignorance. That’s when I decided to start guiding people through the immigration process.”

Balancing her full-time job with creating video content for social media, Seyi began helping others on the side. As demand for her expertise grew, she took the bold step to quit her job and focus entirely on providing immigration guidance to Africans aspiring to relocate.

What has immigration consultancy been like for Seyi over the years?

It’s been over three years since Seyi left her corporate job, and the experience has been deeply rewarding.

“There are so many people who would have taken the wrong path or fallen victim to scams without proper guidance. I’ve met people who lost significant amounts of money in their desperation to relocate. Helping people avoid these pitfalls and seeing them successfully settle in their dream provinces is my greatest joy. And, of course, it’s a great way to make a living.”

What’s Seyi’s day-to-day like as an immigration consultant?

With most of her clientele based in Nigeria, Seyi’s schedule revolves around managing the five-hour time difference.

“I start my day around 10 a.m. by going through emails and WhatsApp messages. Initially, I handled this myself, but now I have a team to assist. Then, I move to my consultations—about five daily, each lasting an hour. Afterwards, I engage with students in my online courses, addressing their questions and making updates to the content.

Creating educational video content is another big part of my work. I follow a strict content calendar packed with resources for everyone, no matter what stage of the immigration process they’re at. Producing content in bulk helps me manage my time effectively so I can take on more consultations, where most of my revenue comes from.”

Seyi’s favourite thing about helping people with Canadian immigration

For Seyi, the most fulfilling part of her work is seeing clients gain clarity and confidence to take the next step.

“One of my favourite moments is when I help someone realize a clear path forward during our call. Many people come with misconceptions—‘My friend said this,’ or ‘I heard that’—and I always ask, ‘Did you confirm this yourself?’

By the end of the call, they leave with a sense of clarity that makes me happy. I look forward to guiding them from that first consultation to the moment they arrive in Canada. That journey is what keeps me motivated.”

What tools help Seyi in Canada immigration consultancy?

While tools like Google Calendar and WhatsApp help her manage her busy schedule, Selar is the platform that powers Seyi’s business.

“Selar is my all-in-one solution. It helps me reach clients across Africa—Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda—and allows them to easily purchase my courses, book consultations, and even become affiliates to sell my courses.

The Affiliate Network is particularly a game-changer. My affiliates promote my links to prospective clients, and I’m always impressed by the results. Selar’s support team is also amazing—they’re quick to resolve issues and always follow up to ensure everything runs smoothly. And I love that I can withdraw my money anytime I want.”

Despite the tools at Seyi’s disposal, she still has some challenges

Despite her success, Seyi faces challenges like the time difference and the never-ending need to stay updated on Canada’s immigration policies.

“Canada has 10 provinces, each with its own immigration programs and policies. I dedicate a lot of time to research—on YouTube, government websites, and other sources—to make sure my content is authentic and rich. This is what justifies the value I provide and the fees I charge.”

Another ongoing issue is impersonation.

“People keep duplicating my profiles on social media to scam others. It’s frustrating because it affects my reputation and preys on vulnerable people. I always urge my audience to verify before engaging.”

To aspiring immigrant consultants, Seyi says

“Learning is your best asset. Understand the various immigration routes and their policies. Most importantly, manage your client’s expectations and always operate with integrity. That’s what will keep you in the game long-term.”

And to the aspiring immigrant

“Keep the faith. A visa refusal isn’t the end of the world. With the right knowledge and persistence, you can achieve your goal. Always ensure your documents are truthful, and never hesitate to seek guidance when needed. The information you need is out there, and someone like me can help interpret it for you. Stay committed, and you’ll get to your destination.”
