Olanrewaju Akintobi Is Using Selar To Simplify Agricultural Education

Olanrewaju’s daily tasks involve training farmers and teaching younger Agripreneurs about the latest agricultural trends. He emphasizes the importance of following through with action to ensure significant improvements in their socioeconomic characteristics. “The innovation can be seeds, the cultivation process, the types of fertilizer, or even the market strategies for selling products,” he explains.

In addition to his fieldwork, Olanrewaju is one of Africa’s leading social agriculturalists. “A social agriculturalist uses social media platforms to conduct agricultural training, disseminate information, and showcase agricultural opportunities to the general public,” he elaborates. On Twitter, he is known as The Naija Farmer, boasting 167,000 followers. His Telegram group has 22,000 subscribers, and while his TikTok following is smaller, he maintains a presence there and on YouTube.

How did Olanrewaju become The Naija Farmer?

“After getting my degree, I focused on lecturing agricultural education and rural sociology in universities. Now and then, I’d provide consultancy services to people who had farms and needed some direction. Eventually, I started sharing information on social media.”

He mostly shared practical agricultural tips and remedies on Twitter. For example, he shared a tip on using onion water to repel mosquitoes. His followers appreciated these daily tips, and over time, they started requesting a compilation of all his remedies. Initially, he was hesitant due to his busy schedule, but eventually, he decided to compile the tips into a book.

What was creating a book like?

“It wasn’t a tedious process as I had documented most of it before so when I compiled it, I asked people around me how much they’d buy a book of agricultural tips and remedies to ease their daily lives.”

After reviewing the suggestions from his audience, he decided to sell the book at the fixed price of N3000 and the journey towards sales began.

How did he find Selar?

“I used my European address to set up an Amazon account so people could buy the book.”

However, not many could buy the book on Amazon and the people who could complain about how much of a hassle the process was until a friend told Olanrewaju about Selar.

“I looked Selar up and found that the platform is quite user-friendly. I didn’t need to be tech-savvy to set up my account and sell my book. Since then, I have sold about 4000 copies of the book, which has amounted to millions of Naira in my account.”

Selar’s advantages for Olanrewaju

Olanrewaju praises Selar for its simplicity and efficiency.

“As a co-founder of a health technology company myself, I understand the importance of keeping things simple which is why I love Selar’s interface. It is easy to navigate, and creating products to sell is straightforward.”

He also appreciates Selar’s fast payout system and responsive customer support, which addresses issues within 24 hours. Selar’s global payment acceptance has expanded his reach, allowing people from Kenya, Europe, the US, Canada, and other African countries to buy his book.

“Getting access to my data is also straightforward. I know the details of people who purchase my book and can easily reach out to them if need be.”

Challenges despite Selar

“Maintaining a large following on social media can be a bit of a hassle. Right now, my major platform is Twitter. I also maintain a group of 22k subscribers on Telegram. I have struggled with growing on TikTok after I was forced to create an account by a dear friend.”

He has also tried to maintain a presence on YouTube and Facebook but generally, Twitter and Telegram get the bulk of his attention.

Some advice to aspiring social agriculturalists

For those looking to follow in his footsteps, Olanrewaju emphasizes the importance of building a community, maintaining integrity, and solving real problems.

“Create a community that trusts you and is ready to buy your product,” he advises. He also suggests that Selar could further support entrepreneurs by amplifying and advertising products on their platform.
